Did you know...

Water exercise has a positive effect on bone density among post-menopausal women. A study conducted in Israel shows that 7% of women aged 45-54, 14% of women aged 55-65, and 25% of women aged 65-74 were diagnosed with Osteoporosis. As women age, the monthly menstrual cycle begins to cease and the gradual process of bone density loss commences, thus triggering effects such as fractures of the spinal vertebrae, hip, and wrist bones. During this study over a 7-month period, one group of women participated in a water training program that included 1-hour sessions, three times per week. At the same time, another group of women did not engage in physical activity at all. This interaction indicated that "water exercise had a positive effect on bone density and allowed women in the experimental group to preserve, and even increase, their bone density, in comparison to the other control group which registered a loss." The main conclusion of this study indicates that water exercise several times a week can aide in preserving bone density among post-menopausal women who naturally experience a decline of roughly 1%-2% per year in bone density.
